Club Activity Report – Aug 2014
SPORTS NEWS for the month AUGUST
The students participated in the under 14 and 16 boys and the under 14 girls Football tournament held at Military School, Phulegaon, Alandi on 19th and 20th August, 2014. The boys secured the fourth place and the girls secured the third place. Pratham Shenwai, Sanath Pardeshi and Aditi Nair have been shortlisted for the State level.
The students also participated in the Third International Chess Tournament held by the CBSE at City International School, Kothrud and received participation certificates
The club activities conducted on 23rd August, 2014.
Dramatics Club started with the play Goldilocks And The Three Bears. As it was done using puppets, our enthusiastic students made finger puppets and stick puppets of the characters in the story. They were encouraged to come to the stage and enact the characters they had made.
The students were curious and eager to know the name of the play they were going to enact. A very easy and enjoyable story was selected, the story Pinocchio was read out to them.
Mulberry Gourmet Club
The Mulberry Gourmet Club tried a new recipe using cocoa,vanilla essence and many more easily available ingredients to make tastier modaks using Marie biscuits for The Lord Ganesha . One thing that fascinated children in the modak was the cocoa colour and the aroma of vanilla and cardamom pods.
With their chef caps and aprons they enjoyed the whole activity and finally relished the modaks and shared with their friends and teachers. Students also wrote the recipe in their Gourmet books and drew pictures of modaks.
The club activity started with explanation of different layers within the Earth’s crust.Students were then shown a movie “The CORE” which was based on the following story-line.
Scientists discover that the Earth’s core is about to stop spinning. Due to this disasters are appearing all over the world: Birds acting crazy as they were unable to navigate properly, powerful thunderstorms, 32 people die within seconds of each other when their pacemakers quit working.
The only way to save Earth from catastrophe is to drill down to the core and set it spinning again.
Dr. Josh Keyes and a team of scientists are recruited in a crash project to send a ship and bomb into the center of the Earth to prevent the catastrophe.
Students enthusiastically saw the movie and were engrosed at every action carried out by the scientists in the movie to save the Earth
Overall it was an active and interesting session enjoyed equally by the students and coordinators.
The students assembled in the activity room and did a few warm up exercises. They also discussed the need and importance of the warm up exercises conducted before the dance activity.
After the warm up exercise the club in charges taught the steps on the song “Hokey Pokey” followed by a lovely tone titled “Fiesta”. While the “Hokey Pokey” song enabled effective movement of the body parts of the club members, the track “Fiesta” was an energetic number which ensured fun-filled dancing activity.
The students very enthusiastically came in front and danced in pairs in front of other members. They also tried to present their dance in a new/ innovative manner.
All the members thoroughly enjoyed the dance activity. They members danced with full energy and grasped the steps taught very quickly and easily.
The students from Std I to IV from handicraft club made lovely garlands out of papers and straws. They tried their skill of making and cutting paper flowers and weaving them into a garland .They enjoyed wearing garlands around themselves. An array of garlands were made by young artists.
The second group Std V to IX made paper mache bowls out of newspaper and glue. They had to glue the paper strips around the inflated balloon. They enjoyed this activity. They had to leave it for drying. Next day we got beautiful bowls from newspapers which were painted by the students. Everyone enjoyed the activities thoroughly.
As the club activity we went to visit the heritage spot of Pune City, Raja Dinkarkelkar Museum. The museum had the collection made by Dr. Dinkar G. Kelkar (1896–1990), dedicated to the memory of his only son, Raja, who died an untimely tragic death. The three-storey building houses various sculptures dating back to the 14th century.
The collection was started around 1920 and by 1960 it contained around 15,000 objects. In 1962, DrKelkar handed his collection to the Department of Archaeology within the Government of Maharashtra.
We enjoyed and learnt a lot from the displayed artefacts about the life style of the people of people in the ancient times.
Nature and Adventure
We visited the Shivneri Fort in Narayangaon. This is great place to relive the history of Great Maratha Warrior – Kings. Shivneri Fort is close to Junnar Town and easily accessible by steps. This is the birth place of the great ShivajiMaharaj and has immense historical significance.
The scenery around the fort was also quite mesmerising.
It was a lovely easy trek up with stunning views. It took us three hours to explore the fort.
This is very old and historic fort and is the birthplace of Maratha Emperor, Shivajiraje Bhosale. There are two lakes known as the sweet & cold water lakes. The Fort is well maintained and we witnessed a lot of construction work going on. The holy temple of Mata Shivaidevi is at the entrance of the fort. This fort has seven ancient doors which are well maintained.
We started trekking down and after reaching the foot of the fort, the children were served lunch
The fort took us back into the ‘Maratha Era’ giving us a glimpse of how brave and courageous the Maratha warriors were.
The children went home happily with a new and refreshing experience to share with their family and friends.
In the third club activity. We taught children three new stitches-Lazy-daisy stitch, Stem stitch, Rose stitch Children were very eager to learn the new stitches. They learned the stitches thoroughly. We practiced this stitch on a neat and clean handkerchief. Design of flowers were terraced on each and every students cloth. They were taught the new stitches with the help of embroidery threads.
The Club activity started with the recapitulation of the work done in the previous session. Two students, Vaibhav Nambiar and Raghubir Singh, came up with very creative designs for the logo of the club.
The students were divided into five groups. Each group had a team leader. The students have been asked to come up with the name of their group by the next session.
To assemble the first Robot, the spare parts of the kit were divided among each group. Group 1 was asked to assemble the Robot under the able guidance of Mr. Kamlesh Prajapati and Mr. Shishir Sambharkar. Students’ enthusiastically participated in the assembling of the Robot. They were thrilled to see their first Lego Robot ‘TRACKER MISSION 1’.
After assembling the Robot, the students were asked to draw their first creation and were given points for the same.
The Interact Club at VPMS, Lohegaon by Rotary Club, Kalyaninagar
Members of the Rotary Club Kalyaninagar visited the School and introduced the students to the INTERACT club on
18th August, 2014. A workshop to make Eco friendly Ganesh was held on 21st August, 2014 by Mr. MandarMarathe for the 30 students of the Interact club.
The senior group of students from STD VI-IX went to Inorbit Mall, located on Nagar road and participated in a small cultural programme organized by The Rotary Club, Kalyaninagar on the occasion of Independence day. They performed a dance on the song “ye jo des haimera” from the movie Swades. The programme was held in the evening from 6 to 8pm. The students wore black colour costumes and with face and hand painted in tricolor displayed wonderful coordination and enthusiasm in their performance. It was a beautiful show put up by the Rhythmic Moves Club under the guidance of the club in charge Mr. Deepak Jadhav.
