Col. Nimbalkar’s visit to the School
Over the years we have been taught the importance of values and principles in life. Dignity of labor, respecting all professions is something which has been inculcated in all of us. But there are certain professions and people who humble us with the way they contribute to the society and serve their motherland.
Our school was fortunate to have one such distinguished gentleman, Colonel Sachin Nimbalkar visit us on 14th August 2015, on the eve of our 69th Independence day
Col. Nimbalkar did his schooling in Pune and went on to do his training in NDA and IMA, following which he was commissioned as second lieutenant in 18 grenadiers in June 1997.
He served in Jammu & Kashmir in intense counter terrorism operations. In 1999 Col. Nimbalkar, a captain then along with his unit fought in the battles of Tololing and Tiger hill operations in the Kargil War. The 18 grenadiers’ battalion was instrumental in capture of both these features from Pak Intruders. He was awarded the Vir Chakra for the recapture of Tiger Hills.
Col. Nimbalkar also served with Rashtriya Rifles in active counter terrorism operations and commanded the unit in highest battlefield in Siachen Glacier. He was also part of peace keeping operations in Sierra Leone and training teams of Kyrgystan and Cambodia.
Col. Nimbalkar addressed the students of STD VIII, IX and X. The Colonel narrated the tales of Kargil war and his experience through the struggle to keep our motherland safe. The students sat captivated throughout the session. The Colonel spoke about the jawans and officers who sacrificed their lives during the war. He spoke about the conditions under which the soldiers fight so our borders are not intruded by the enemies.
The students were awe struck by the Colonel’s speech and asked him a lot of questions regarding the army life, women soldiers and a career in the army. He spoke about the importance of discipline in life- more sports and studies and less use of mobiles at this stage. The Colonel patiently answered all the questions and even obliged the children with a photograph and his autograph. He also addressed the students of STD X separately answering their queries on career in army and the importance of various subjects that they learn now, in the future. He gifted the school with an autographed book titled ‘A Salute to Our Heroes’ – 10 inspiring stories of the Kargil brave hearts.
